Alabama Background Check: Criminal Records and Sex Offender Registry

If you need to run a background check on someone from Alabama or are just seeking information on how to run a background check in Alabama, you can utilize the online systems made available by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Criminal Records

Through the ALEA, the State of Alabama employs a secure website that gives qualifying employers access to the most updated and comprehensive criminal records. This service allows employers to screen their current and potential future employees to verify their past criminal records.

Alabama’s web-based system for background checks is known as Alabama Background Check System, available here.

If you need to run a background check on someone from Alabama, you can complete and submit the ALEA Application. Along with the completed application, the applicants must provide their biometrics information (fingerprint), a current copy of photo identification (a driver’s license, national I.D., or passport), a $25.00 money order or Cashier’s check.

Sex Offender Search

To verify whether an individual has any recorded sexual offense, you can utilize the online public Sex Offender Registry in Alabama. Using this registry, you can search over 16,000 registered sex offenders.

The website states that the personnel who are responsible for maintaining the registry updates the registry with new information daily. They also answer questions via e-mail that the public have for them.

In the registry, you can find sex offenders by address, name, and city. You must note that not all offenders are listed on this registry due to various reasons, including but not limited to the offender being a juvenile.
